Linda considered herself lucky for most of her life because she was the only person in her family who didn’t wear glasses. Then one morning she woke up and saw mostly black out of her left eye. She made the decision to make an appointment with Eye Surgeons Associates and was diagnosed with AMD in her left eye and, then later, also in her right. She began receiving shots and eventually had surgery to correct the changes.
“These are some of the finest doctors I’ve ever worked with!” says Linda. “When I call Eye Surgeons for an appointment, they always get you in.”
Linda has advice to others who may be having trouble with their eyesight. “Make an appointment no matter how scary it seems. Don’t put it off and stay in denial. These doctors are extremely experienced and you should follow their expert advice.”
She now sees Dr. Elshatory monthly and receives preventative injections to keep the progression of AMD at bay. “I truly feel that it’s God first and then Dr. Elshatory,” Linda proclaims. “He’s just wonderful. I feel so lucky that, at 80 years old, I’m still able to drive and spend time volunteering. I really enjoy getting out and about and I love the interaction I receive while volunteering as an usher.”
While there is no cure for AMD, making regular eye appointments can be key to early diagnosis and treatment. Not sure how often you should have an exam? Follow these guidelines by the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
