ESA reaches cataract patients in Monmouth.
Eye Surgeons Associates is pleased to bring cataract surgery to patients well south of the Quad City area. Dr. Carlton Fenzl will be performing cataract surgery at OSF Holy Family Medical Center one Friday per month.
Cataracts are the most frequent cause of vision loss in people over 40. A cataract forms when the natural crystalline lens of the eye becomes cloudy. The age at which the cloudiness interferes significantly with vision, however, is variable. Surgery is the only treatment to clear the clouded visual pathway and is appropriate when poor vision interferes with your lifestyle.
Once cataracts have been diagnosed by their local eye care provider, the patient or provider will call ESA to schedule a pre- surgical exam at Eye Surgeons’ Rock Island office for the special testing required. Then surgery is scheduled at OSF and following surgery most post-operative care will also be handled locally by the patient’s eye care provider. Drs. Distin and Doyle, a Monmouth Optometrist group, will be providing space in their office for Dr. Fenzl to conduct the first post-operative visit.
“Keeping care local is more convenient for the patient and better for the local economy. A real win-win for everyone,” comments ESA President Dr. John Frederick.
Dr. Fenzl adds, “I’m excited to bring cataract surgery to OSF Holy Family Medical Center and the Monmouth community and to be working with Dr.s Distin and Doyle.”
